Time Travel Mart

McSweenys non-profit 826National – dedicated to supporting writers ages 6 to 18 – has several unique storefronts throughout the U.S., including two SciFi-themed shops. Head to the Time Travel Mart in Echo Park and the Space Travel Supply store in Seattle for all your SciFi needs. Proceeds support 826 chapters!

We recently learned from an LAUSD librarian that there’s a SciFi recommended reading list for K through 12 in California. Although the WSFBC was not consulted, it appears many of the titles mirror our own reading list.

Here’s the CDE-approved list:

The Wonder of Reading is a nonprofit organization whose purpose is to inspire in children the love of reading. WOR furthers its purpose through the 3R Program—Renovate, Restock, and Read.

The Women’s SciFi Book Club attended the Wonder of Reading library opening at Baldwin Hills Elementary School in 2008.

The students put on an amazing show to celebrate their new library.

WOMENS’ SCIENCE FICTION BOOK CLUB ENDORSES BARACK OBAMA FOR PRESIDENT

Los Angeles—The Womens’ Science Fiction Book Club announced today that it is endorsing Senator (D-Il.), author, and Sci-Fi advocate Barack Obama for President of the United States. This morning’s declaration from the positronic four-member brain trust reinforced recent endorsements from fellow supporters of literacy, culture, and the investigation of the space-time continuum, spurring Sci-Fi and “Geek the Vote” fans to Read a Book: Obey Sci-Fi in 2008.
